There are not many tourists who will include Curug on their itinerary when traveling through Serbia, and that's only because they don't know what kind of things they can find in this small town in the municipality of Zabalj.

And there is a lot to see: from the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, which boasts the largest bell tower in the Balkans, wonderful wineries, farm-to-table agricultural households, inns along the river where traditional dishes from Serbia's northern province of Vojvodina are served, the famous Rodja's Windmill...

However, anyone who has gone fishing anywhere in our country at least once will have heard from more experienced fishermen that the best place in in Curug, on the banks of the Stara (Old) Tisa.

Some also call it Mrtva (Dead) Tisa, and there is a reason for that.

When the Tisa River changed its course, it left behind a calm lake 10 kilometers long. It is on that lake that this Vojvodina oasis for fishermen is located.

However, Stara Tisa does not enchant only fishermen. This natural gem attracts a large number of swimmers during the summer to the well-maintained beach, and there are also a large number of weekenders in the area who have chosen this part of the Backa region for their "escape to nature."
