Russian president's spokesman Dmitry Peskov says Moscow supports Serbia regarding Kosovo and that the region's authorities' demands towards the Serbs in the north are unfounded.

"Of course, we absolutely support Serbia. We are close to Kosovo Serbs. We believe that Kosovo authorities are absolutely unreasonable," the Kremlin spokesman stressed.

According to him, Western countries that recognized Kosovo must warn the province's authorities against taking reckless steps, while the rights of Serbs living there must be respected.

"Of course, we believe that those who have recognized Kosovo and acted as guarantors should use all their influence to warn against any reckless steps that could lead to further escalation of tensions," he said.

"We demand that all rights of the Serbs be respected," Peskov said.

He added that an escalation has been avoided and that things have been postponed for a month.
