The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, visited Sabac yesterday, where he attended the connecting of the two sides of a new bridge over the Sava River (section 2), as part of the construction project of the Ruma-Sabac highway and the Sabac-Loznica expressway.
The bridge 1,361 meters long, is built on 371 piles, with a total of 45 main beams and 47 pillars.
Vucic, speaking to journalists, said that he was very happy that the Sava bridge was completed in just two years, and that the two banks near Sabac have been connected by installing the last concrete block.
The Sava bridge near Sabac, he said, is "a small masterpiece".
"I've never watched a bridge being built in such a way. I always wondered how they get to the bottom of the river with piles, and here I saw it done technically and technologically," he added.
The commercial contract to design and execute works on the Ruma-Sabac highway and the Sabaca-Loznica expressway was signed on November 19, 2019.
The total length of that road is 77 kilometers, and the construction of a total of 56 facilities is planned, of which 54 are bridges and two loops.
