"He asked if he killed someone, said he was drunk, and walked away": Cafe owner recounts Novi Sad chaos

He told Telegraf that he was not present when it all happened, but heard the crash

The news about a traffic accident in a Novi Sad cafe shook young people and their parents in Serbia this morning, while the owner of the cafe told Telegraf what exactly happened the night before in his establishment.

He said that he was not present when it all unfolded, but heard the crash.

"I didn't see the moment when the vehicle drove into the garden, but I heard the impact. Several young men had been at that spot that got mowed down by the car, and they left just a few minutes earlier, fortunately they avoided getting hurt, who knows what condition they would be in if they stayed," Dragan tells Telegraf.

He added that he went down to the cafe's garden and heard from the patrons what had happened.

"They say he (the driver) was going fast, around 100 kilometers per hour. After crashing into a tree that stopped him, he got out of the vehicle along with a girl. She went one way, while he asked, 'Did I kill someone?' and went the other, he also said that he was drunk," recounts the owner of the cafe.

Two girls were injured in the accident, one of them seriously.

The police are still looking for the driver.
