Former Kosovo Foreign Minister Skender Hyseni says that Kosovo's application to join the Council of Europe (CoE) will be unsuccessful and that the government was aware of that, writes Reporteri.

"Kosovo applied for membership in the Council of Europe, fully aware that the application would be unsuccessful. But they did it to tell people that they signed up. Nobody deals with that anymore. Well done," Hyseni said while appearing on T7, reports Kosovo Online.

Hyseni added that there is credible information that Italy, that currently holds European Council (EC) presidency, has asked Kosovo not to apply at this time.

"I have reliable information that Italy, which presides over the Council of Europe, pleaded with Kosovo not to apply. And these (in power in Kosovo) are coming out with statements that they have support for it. Go to all the countries of the Western world that support Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, of course they will say yes. But if you ask them if they support it in the current period in this situation, they say no," said Hyseni.
