Jovanovic tells Telegraf.rs: We will respond to invitation because we respect institutions and voters
Milos Jovanovic and Vojislav Mihailovic will meet with the president of Serbia on behalf of the NADA coalition
The leader of the Democratic Party of Serbia, Milos Jovanovic, told Telegraf.rs today that he will respond to the invitation of President Aleksandar Vucic and participate in consultations about the formation of the new government of Serbia.
"We will respond, of course, because that's basic polite behavior and a question of respecting the democratic order and parliamentary logic, institutions and the very function of the president of the state, but also a question of respecting the voters who have shown their trust in us but also in the president of the Republic himself. Vojislav Mihailovic, the president of POKS, and I will go to the meeting," said Jovanovic.
Jovanovic added that he does not have excessive expectations from that meeting, stating that it is the constitutional duty of the president to consult with representatives of parliamentary parties and parliamentary groups, bearing in mind that the government must have the parliament's confidence.
"In our case, it's more of a formality because the previous government achieved a majority in these elections again. It will probably not be a formality for the SPS and some other parties, and for us it will be a matter of respecting proper behavior, which is not to say will not have some questions," said Jovanovic.
According to him, it will be important during that meeting for representatives of the NADA coalition to hear answers to questions regarding European integration and the conflict in Ukraine, but also to convey their views.
Jovanovic expects that the first session of the Serbian parliament will be held by the end of July, followed by a 90-day deadline to form Serbia's new government.
It was announced earlier that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will start consultations with parliamentary political parties on Thursday, July 14.
