Stefanovic and Atanaskovic: "Serbia can design and produce weapons and equipment for its own army"

Stefanovic and Atanaskovic met today with managements of defense industry factories

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Nebojša Stefanovic and Minister of Economy Andjelka Atanaskovic met today with the managements of defense industry factories and representatives of the Independent Trade Unions of Metalworkers of Serbia.

Stefanovic said that we continue to work intensively on the development of our military industry.

He recalled that several similar meetings had been held in the previous period, the topics of which were manufacturing, challenges and difficulties faced by factories in business, as well as development projects.

"Fortunately, we no longer discuss only the problems that burden our defense industry, but also development opportunities and what can be done to achieve results. The state insists on investments with which we will increase capacities and modernize plants, because we want to ensure that our factories will be able to produce everything that our military institutes design for equipping our units," said Stefanovic, adding that this would also contribute to better business of the factories themselves.

Atanaskovic assessed that today's meeting was very constructive and that procurement of energy will be the most serious challenge for the business of defense industry factories in the coming period.

At the meeting, directors of the factories Prva Iskra - Namenska, PPT - Namenska, Milan Blagojevic - Namenska, Zastava Orzje, Krusik, Sloboda and Prvi Partizan, as well as trade union representatives presented their proposals for improving the situation and their business.

President of the Independent Union of Metalworkers of Serbia Zoran Markovic underlined the importance of quality communication between union representatives and factory management for the sake of doing good business, the Ministry of Defense announced.
