Geoana: NATO does not see any risk of escalation in Kosovo
The only way for both sides is dialogue and compromise and NATO fully supports the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina - said the NATO official
NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana says that NATO sees no sign of any risk of escalation of the situation in the north of Kosovo, in other parts of Kosovo or in the wider region.
In an interview for KoSSev, he said that the only way for both sides is dialogue and compromise and that NATO fully supports the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
He added that the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) can come to the north only with the agreement and consultation with the KFOR commander, and reiterated that KFOR is strictly implementing its mandate in Kosovo based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
The former Romanian foreign minister, now the deputy secretary general of the Western military alliance, was in Kosovo, and the visit followed only a few days after the NATO summit in Madrid, which Geoana considers to have been successful.
He stated that the situation in Kosovo and Metohija is fragile but stable and that NATO sees no signs of possible escalation, Tanjug reported.
