Office for Kosovo and Metohija: "Mutual recognition" is not and cannot be part of Belgrade-Pristina dialogue

Any attempt to interpret normalization of relations as a way to recognize unilaterally declared independence of so-called "Kosovo" by Serbia is taking us a step away from normalization, just as chauvinistic witch-hunts against democratically elected representatives of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija are taking us away from normalization, said a statement from the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic.

He also said that so-called "mutual recognition" is not and cannot be a part of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

Petkovic stated that Belgrade "has a genuine desire to normalize relations with Pristina in a way that will enable inhabitants of our southern province, both Serbs and Albanians, to live safely, in a society where human rights are respected and there are preconditions for economic development and prosperity of all kinds, but Belgrade and Pristina cannot negotiate about so-called 'mutual recognition', because that unfulfilled desire of Pristina is not, nor can it be part of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue."

He added that such a thing is not written in any document that constitutes the negotiation process conducted under the auspices of the EU.

"Any attempt to interpret normalization of relations as a way to recognize unilaterally declared independence of so-called 'Kosovo' by Serbia is taking us a step away from normalization, just as chauvinistic witch-hunts against democratically elected representatives of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija are taking us away from normalization," said Petkovic.

He added that "the daily demonization of Serbs and Serbia by representatives of the provisional institutions of self-government in Pristina does not contribute to normalization."

"Vjosa Osmani likes to talk about normalization, but everything she is doing is directed against normalization and it is high time that in the interest of all residents of Kosovo and Metohija, Pristina stops playing a dangerous double game that can cancel all the positive effects of the EU dialogue and provoke a dangerous security destabilization," Petar Petkovic stressed.
