Businessman Bogoljub Karic has said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov should have been allowed to come to Serbia, because he does not go on visits by chance and may have carried the "golden key" that Serbia needs, or a "key for mediation."

"It's unbelievable that Lavrov was not allowed to come to Serbia, because maybe he carries the golden key we need - to say to the Serbian authorities, 'Gentlemen, we understand the kind of pressure you are under, and even if you imposed sanctions it would be nothing to us, we understand you, you need to take care of yourself at this moment, and our relations will not deteriorate and we will do everything we can for you'," Karic told TV Pink.

According to him, Lavrov may have carried with him a key for mediation, because today Serbia is the only country, and President Aleksandar Vucic is the only man who can mediate and talk to the Russians, the Chinese, the Germans, the French and the Americans.

"Today, Serbia is the only free island in Europe, thanks to precisely to the president," said Karic.

Commenting on sanctions against Russia, but also against businessmen who cooperate with it, including himself, Karic said that these are sanctions imposed by America and Europe and that they believe that this is a measure through which they can achieve their goals.

According to him, they want to intimidate those who do business in Russia, like him, and say that everyone who does business with Russia will receive sanctions.

He stressed that threats against Serbia and pressure on the president of Serbia with the goal of imposing sanctions are very severe, but that Serbia is withstanding them well.

"Sanctions do not have a positive effect and cannot stop Russia's development. This today is not the Russia that they think it is. This is Russia, which, thanks to Putin, has become the biggest power in production of wheat and grains," said Karic.

The West does not know today's Russia, Karic said, adding that "a Russian can live without a single dollar, while his counterpart in the West cannot."
