Black series ends: Less than 10,000 people died in Serbia in a month for the first time in over half a year

In the first four months of this year, more babies were born than in the same period in 2020

For the first time in exactly 7 months in Serbia the statistic of more than 10,000 deaths per month has changed. 8,479 people died in April, according to the latest data from the Statistical Office (RSZ).

From September last year to April, those numbers ranged from 10,000 to over 15,000 deaths per month.

"The number of deaths in Serbia in the period January-April 2022 was 44,215 and, compared to the same period last year, when the number of deaths was 46,194, there was a decline of 1,979 or 4.3 percent," the RSZ report states.

At the same time, there were 4,326 births in April, which is lower than the previous month, March, when the number was 5,242, but in the first four months of this year, compared to the same period last year, there has been an increase.

"In the period January-April 2022, the number of live births was 19,164. Compared to the same period last year, when the number of live births was 18,894, there was an increase of 270 or 1.4 percent," said the RSZ.
