A member of the French Senate, Philippe Folliot, told Telegraf.rs today that he is completely convinced that Serbia has its place in the European Union.

"As far as I am concerned, I will repeat once again that I am completely convinced that Serbia has its place in the EU. For now, the European Union needs to be reformed so that it can also accept other members besides Serbia who aspire to become EU members," Folliot said.

Asked whether the possible introduction of sanctions against Russia would speed up Serbia's path to the European Union, Folliot explained that we now have a binary position, i.e., on the one hand, there is an aggressor, and on the other, someone who is under that aggression.

"Europe has clearly sided with Ukraine because it defends the values of freedom and democracy and the right to integrity and sovereignty of that country. That is why it is important for Serbia to take a clear position. I don't know whether Serbia will speed up its EU path by imposing sanctions against Russia, but I think it is clear that if it does not take any clear position, it will slow down its path towards the European Union," he said.

According to him, it is important that Serbia strongly condemns the aggression against Ukraine, and on the other hand, it will be completely free to choose whether or not to impose sanctions.

"Each country decides in accordance with its policy, but I am sure that any decision in favor of Ukraine will have a certain impact on the further course of the European integration process," concluded the member of the French Senate.
