Imagine if it was always like this: Belgrader drives to work in 5 instead of 20 minutes, and records it
Another holiday, May Day, is coming our way, so we can expect more days with similarly empty streets in Belgrade
Orthodox Easter is a 2-day, non-working national holiday in Serbia, and on Easter Monday morning, many people were still asleep, carefree, or just having their first coffee of the day at home. No stress, no rush and no traffic jams. Those who are working today, on the other hand, could enjoy the empty streets of Belgrade.
One of our colleagues sent us a video of him arriving from Pionirski Park to Savski Nasip in New Belgrade in just five minutes.
He turned on the stopwatch and realized that he drove the distance, which normally takes 20 minutes when traffic jams are not extreme, in only five minutes today.
That's four times faster than usual! Of course, he never exceeded the speed limit.
As he explained to us, he was also lucky with traffic lights, so he came across only a single red light.
Today you won't get to feel what it's like to be waiting in front of lights, trying to catch the last moments of a green, or having to slow down all the time.
This is an ideal day for new drivers to drive through the city center, pass through Slavija Square where they may be alone, or cross a bridge, without seeing any other cars on the road.
Driving is a real joy today, but so is sipping coffee in a cafe or on a balcony - these are the opportunities that should be taken to have a nice restful ahead of the upcoming week. Another holiday, May Day, is coming our way, so we can expect more days in Belgrade with similarly "deserted" streets.
