Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto today welcomed the victory of President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic in the general elections held on Sunday, and assessed that elections in Serbia are important for Hungary as well.

Szijjarto wrote on Facebook that the results of the Serbian elections have a significant impact on the future of Hungarians living in Serbia and on Hungarian-Serbian relations, MTI reported.

"We have worked hard to turn historical antagonism into historical friendship. We are happy that yesterday's elections allow us to continue this work. Not only have we (in Hungatian elections) achieved a historic victory, but President Aleksandar Vucic, a great friend of Hungary, has done the same," said Szijjarto added that he had recently spoke on the phone with his "friend and colleague (Serbian Foreign Minister) Nikola Selakovic."
