President Vucic meets with Patriarch Porfirije: These are the details of the conversation

The president and the patriarch agreed that the obligation of the utmost importance is to preserve peace and stability

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic met last night with His Holiness Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Porfirije, who presented to the president his initiative regarding the support for refugees from Ukraine.

The patriarch stressed that the Serbian Orthodox Church and its believers are to a large degree engaged in helping people from the areas affected by the war.

President Vucic promised additional engagement of the state so that refugees from Ukraine would receive timely and adequate assistance.

The president and His Holiness also discussed the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, and the president informed the patriarch about the latest decisions made by the Pristina leadership, the situation in the region, as well as the challenges that Serbia is facing in light of the events in Ukraine.

Patriarch of Porfirije informed President Vucic in more detail about the attacks on the Serbian Orthodox Church and its property, especially in Kosovo and Metohija, and stressed that it is important to preserve unity of the Serb people.

The president and the patriarch agreed that the obligation of the utmost importance is to preserve peace and stability, during which national and state interests should come first in order to safeguard a stable future of the citizens of Serbia.
