"There will be no interruption in the flow of gas from Bulgaria to Serbia"

The director of Serbia's state gas company Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic, assessed today that no interruption in the inflow of gas from Bulgaria to Serbia will happen and that statements about that are part of a "propaganda war" that is going on, which targets Bulgaria and Serbia.

"I think that no interruption of the gas supply through Bulgaria will happen for the simple reason that gas is a commodity and you can always pay for transport with some amount of gas. I even think that they are compensating for that, but will not say it," Bajatovic told a Serbian TV station.

He stressed that there is no doubt that with the exchange of market goods, which is the same as money, one can pay for the transport of gas without introducing the ruble into such a transaction.

"There is no need at all to consider those geopolitical statements. Among other things, the pressure is on Bulgaria and Serbia. On the other hand, what determines relations? Interests. So what now, Bulgarians should suspend gas transport, and where is their gas? They have none," he added.

"Is it in Russia's interest to be left without income from gas exports? Obviously not," said Bajatovic and assessed that the "European equation of gas supply" will not be solvable without Russia's gas for at least the next seven years.

He also said that Srbijagas has paid Gazprom for gas in euros a few days ago, and added that it has been agreed to switch from paying in dollars to euros.
