Milanovic after the aircraft crash: It was in Croatia for 7 minutes, this is a serious incident
"How is it possible for an unsophisticated aircraft to spend more than an hour above a NATO member-state without anyone noticing," the Croatian president asked
President of Croatia Zoran Milanovic says that the crash of an aircraft in Zagreb last night was a serious incident.
He added that the aircraft flew in from the space of Ukraine.
"We know what kind of object it was. It flew over Hungary for over 40 minutes, in was in Croatia for less than 7 minutes. This is a serious incident," the president said.
"I call on citizens to remain calm. We assess that this is not directed against Croatia. We have to investigate certain procedural things, how this came about without the aircraft the size of an airplane getting shot down on the way from Ukraine to Zagreb," he said.
"Currently, it is the subject of a serious investigation as it is possible that no one noticed this. The question is whether Croatia could have done anything with this level of defense. It was in our airspace for a very short time. I called the prime minister this morning," said Milanovic.
He added that the facts will be established.
"How is it possible for an unsophisticated aircraft to spend more than an hour above a NATO member-state without anyone noticing. Military services are involved in the investigation. As things stand now, the aircraft flew in from Ukraine, crashed in Zagreb when it ran out of fuel," he said.
"I did not speak with Orban, Plenkovic saw him in France. Hungary should have had the data in the shortest possible time, yet nothing happened,"said Milanovic.
"No need to summon Ukrainian ambassador"
"There is no need to invite the Ukrainian ambassador for a conversation, there is a war and things are out of control. I don't know what we would gain by that. We just hope it doesn't happen again. That thing flew 1,000 kilometers," the president said.
He added that it is good that no one was injured in this incident.
