Australians sending largest ever team to Belgrade World Championships: They'll be welcomed with open arms

A historic occasion for Australian athletics in the Serbian capital

Athletics Australia has proudly confirmed the largest Australian team that will compete in the World Athletics Indoor Championships, which will be held in Belgrade from March 18 to 20, with a team of 16 athletes.

The Australians will be led by the national indoor record holder and overall winner of the World Indoor Tournament 2022 in women's high jump competition, Eleanor Patterson, as well as the bronze medalist from Tokyo, Ashley Moloney.

The two-time Olympian in the high jump, Patterson had a phenomenal 2021 with four jumps of 1.96 meters, fifth place at the Tokyo Olympics and a performance in the Diamond League final. The 25-year-old will now be the favorite for gold, after breaking the Australian indoor record in her debut indoor competition in Birmingham.

Australia will be represented by a total of nine male and seven female competitors.

"We are very excited to announce this team of 16 athletes and we are extremely proud to send our biggest team ever to Belgrade for the World Athletics Indoor Championships," said Director General of Athletics Australia Andrew Faichney.

At the World Championships in Belgrade, a true spectacle in the world of sports, everyone is welcome, in line with the hospitality for which Serbia is known around the world.
