Search for lion that escaped near Budva, Montenegro, continues: Help arrives from Pristina

The search for a young lion that disappeared in the area of that town continues today in Budva. Yesterday, more than 60 people took part in the search, and they were in the field until 2 am.

Activists, members of NGOs, the Environmental Protection Agency and volunteers are still on the ground in Pobori, which will be the starting point of the search today.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, traps have been set that react to body movement, and record every activity at a distance of 10 meters, as well as detect meat, but since yesterday until this morning no activity has been noticed near them.

The search is also being carried out by a heat drone that reacts to body heat, but so far there has been no progress.

However, they say that the lion exists, the locals have seen it, people are constantly coming up with footage that clearly shows its movement in various locations in Budva.

The Environmental Protection Agency told RTV Budva that they were joined by colleagues from Pristina, who deal with large animals.

The World Wildlife Organization (WWF) reacted yesterday to express concern about the news of a runaway lion cub.

"The lion was allegedly owned privately by a foreign citizen staying in Budva, but there is no data on it being import, which indicates that the animal was most likely brought into the country illegally," the WWF said, and warned that lions are not pets and should not be treated that way.
