Winter forecast: There will be more snow than usual, 3 cold months and severe frost ahead for Serbia

As things stand, the snow that has plagued us for the past few days is just an introduction to real winter

This winter will be significantly different from the previous few, with above-average precipitation, especially in December and February, says meteorologist Marko Cubrilo. According to him, we should be prepared for more frequent snowfall compared to previous winters.

"The coldest period is probably the end of December and most of January, and the coldest month will most likely be January. Severe frost is possible in January. February could bring somewhat warmer weather, but there is a certain probability (about 40%) that this month will be relatively cold as well," says Cubrilo.

Our part of Europe will also see an unstable December, with frequent precipitation and periods of warmer and colder weather.

"As the month goes on, and the amount of cold air in the north grows, cold episodes will bring more and more snow to the lower regions. This weather forecast means there would be a significant surplus in precipitation this month. There may be a more significantly cold spell in late December. In such conditions, January could be cold and rich in snow," said Cubrilo.

He further explained that there could also be a lot of precipitation in February, and, as there is no signal for high air pressure over Southeastern Europe, it is highly likely that very cold air will come to us, which would again move directly from Russia to Central Europe, and then in waves towards us as well.

"That would probably bring a relatively cold February rich in precipitation, but with possible periods of warmer or relatively warm weather for short amounts of time."
