"Forbidden zone" around factory in Lestane after explosion: Only workers with ID allowed to pass

Access to the factory in Lestane, where an explosion took place yesterday, is still closed from the direction of the highway. Access is also closed from the direction of Smederevo road (Smederevski Put).

On the Lestane ring road, three kilometers from the factory, a police patrol is preventing vehicles from passing, so the media are not allowed to do that either.

Police patrols closed the Lestane circular road from both directions.

Only workers working nearby are allowed to pass, with identification.

A Tanjug crew and other media are trying to enter Lestane from Smederevski Put, which is jammed, but the vehicles are moving.

Since yesterday's explosion, which happened in the rocket fuel factory, emergency services have been on standby.

One of the victims is a 38-year-old man.

16 people were injured, one of whom was in resuscitation with severe injuries, while the others were transported to the Emergency Center and the Military Medical Academy with orthopedic injuries and burns.

Fear of new explosions

According to information available yesterday, there are tanks with kerosene in the factory, which poses risk of new explosions.

Members of the Sector for Emergency Situations managed to stabilize the explosion. Upon arrival at the scene, it was established that an explosion occurred in a 240 square meter warehouse, where 500 rockets with 30 kilograms of rocket fuel were stored.

Firefighters rescued five people working with ambulance and police crews, the Ministry of the Interior announced.
