Serbian Patriarch Porfirije has congratulated the Serbian national football team on the victory over the Portuguese national side and direct World Cup qualification.

The patriarch wrote on Instagram that the footballers are real heroes because they received a blow (with Portugal's early lead), but immediately got up and fought together until victory.

"Bravo guys, bravo Mister (coach) Dragan, I share happiness and joy with you and our people. You are real heroes, because you received a blow but you immediately got up and fought together, as one, until the end, until victory! Long live Serbia," Patriarch Porfirije wrote.

Serbia celebrated 2-1 in Lisbon, thanks to a 90th minute goal socred by Aleksandar Mitrovic.
