The speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Annita Demetriou, says that her country is convinced that Serbia's place is in the European Union, reports Tanjug.

"Serbia has made great steps forward in the direction that is needed, more should be done, and in that way ensure peace and prosperity that the Serbian people deserve," Demetriou told the daily Politika.

She stated that discussions are underway about the future of Serbia in the European family, and that they can only persuade politicians to respond to demands and strengthen the European perspective.

Demetriou stressed that Serbia and Cyprus nurture excellent relations and persist in strengthening democracy, respecting freedoms and nurturing peace.

"The two countries provide pronounced support to each other when it comes to topics such as the so-called Cyprus issue and Kosovo," said Demetriou.
