"Next strain of coronavirus will be 10% more contagious than Delta," Professor Sakic warns

"As long as there are unvaccinated people, the virus will keep mutating into a stronger, not a weaker variant," says Professor Dr. Boris Sakic, a neuroimmunologist at McMaster University in Hamilton

People who have not been vaccinated are factories of new strains of coronavirus and that is why doctors who are trusted must talk about vaccination to encourage those who are undecided to get the jab," says Professor Dr. Boris Sakic, a neuroimmunologist at McMaster University in Hamilton.

Professor Dr. Sakic was on K1 TV and explained the process of the creation of antibodies after vaccination.

"The vaccine stimulates our white blood cells to do their job, to protect us. This means that our immune system is protecting us. Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines contain a spike protein which attaches to our cell and carries information about the virus. Other cells make antibodies against that spike protein. The Chinese vaccine, on the other hand, contains dead whole virus. The vaccine is an exercise for our immune system to work. If you want to strengthen your muscles, will you only go to the gym once? It's the same with the vaccine. Well, we men received the BCG vaccine three times in our lives, when we were born, when we started school and when we served in the army," explained Professor Sakic.

According to him, the level of antibodies is not the best indicator of how effective the vaccines are.

"When the level of antibodies drops, we are left with memory cells. We don't know how long those cells live, but the fact is that memory cells remember that we had been exposed to the virus and that they make antibodies," he added.

"The virus will mutate into a stronger and not a weaker variant as long as there are unvaccinated people," Dr. Sakic stressed during his appearance on the K1 TV show Uranak, and added that the new strain will be ten percent more contagious than the Delta strain, which has been dominant in Serbia for several months.
