Von der Leyen in Pristina, demands continuation of dialogue, Kurti responds by accusing Belgrade
The negotiators are in Brussels and I hope they have a mandate for negotiations which are the best way to move forward. I am deeply convinced that it is important to resolve the situation and continue constructive dialogue - said Von der Leyen
Belgrade and Pristina must work on constructive dialogue in order to resolve the situation in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said after a meeting with Prime Minister of the Provisional Institutions Albin Kurti.
"The negotiators are in Brussels and I hope they have a mandate for negotiations which are the best way to move forward. I am deeply convinced that it is important to resolve the situation and continue constructive dialogue," said Von der Leyen, reports Koha.
She added that she dreams of the Western Balkans as part of the EU.
At a joint press conference after the meeting, Kurti said that he informed the president of the EC that Belgrade was amassing forces at the administrative crossing, after Pristina started to implement reciprocity regarding license plates.
He also stated that Belgrade, on the one hand, receives donations from the EU, and on the other, is militarizing with the help of Russia and China.
According to Pristina based media, Kurti also said that he hoped a solution would be found in Brussels today for unblocking the administrative crossings of Jarinje and Brnjak, as well as that the Kosovo police would remain at the crossings, after KFOR's proposal to replace them was rejected, reports Gazeta Express.
"On Monday, we showed readiness when we met with the KFOR commander, who made a proposal to remove the barricades and replace the special unit until the situation calms down. The border police would remain at Brnjak and Jarinje and reciprocity with the plates would continue. We agreed to that," said Kurti and added that Belgrade rejected the proposal.
Earlier today, Von der Leyen spoke with the president of the provisional institutions, Vjosa Osmani, who said that Belgrade was trying to destabilize Kosovo and the region, and asked the EU to condemn that.
