In the shadow of Ovcar and Kablar, there is a fascinating mountain: Orovica, a hidden gem of Serbia
Both beginners and adventure mountaineers can climb to the top of Mt. Velika Orovica, because the hiking trail is not particularly demanding
Both mountaineers and adventurers want to get to know the beauties of the Ovcar-Kablar Gorge with great impatience. However, what is rarely mentioned is a mountain that is part of this imposing gorge, but one that has been unfairly overlooked.
Only about ten kilometers separates this mountain from Ovcar Banja (spa). The highest peak is located at 856 meters above sea level, and the ascent to Orovica is considered a good option for adventurers, but also hikers who do not have much experience.
The length of the walking tour to the top of Velika Orovica is about 12 kilometers.
Different than neighboring Kablar
Although it is effectively considered a part of the Ovcar-Kablar massif, Mt. Orovica stands out for its still undiscovered landscapes, which few people are able to remain indifferent to.
Getting to know this unjustly neglected mountain begins in the village of Tuckovo, which is about 165 kilometers away from Belgrade. A little more than 80 years ago, just above the Vrncanska River, a road was built that today connects the villages of Tuckovo and Vrncana. And that is precisely one of those more interesting ways to reach the top of Velika Orovica. There are, of course, others, which are considered simpler, but for adventure lovers, this is a real treat.
A peak, known as Sest, is located on the left bank of the Vrncanska River, just opposite Orovica. What's special about this road is reflected not only in the beauty of the landscape, which can be truly enjoyed during the climb, but also in its position. Namely, there are parts of the road that rise several hundred meters above the Vrncanska River, and there are also those that go right along its bank, so there is no lack of enjoyment, regardless of which part of the road you are on. In some places you can simply enjoy the view of the Vrncanska River, and in others the cold waters that you pass by.
Many smaller watercourses can be seen during the ascent, which is another point of interest. Once you pass the first local store and reach the second, you can quickly set off on this amazing trail. After crossing about two kilometers of a paved path, the real adventure begins. Enjoying the forest landscapes, but also several local villages, some of which are almost abandoned, never leaves anyone indifferent.
A very well marked trail leading to the highest peak of this mountain further facilitates the climb. What's also interesting is that in one part it leads right along the edge of the mountain itself, which means that the landscapes, especially in those parts, are fascinating to say the least.
