European statistical centers singled out Montenegro last week as the country with the highest number of newly infected coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants, out of 52 countries in Europe.

According to their data, 600.9 cases were registered per 100,000 inhabitants in Montenegro.

In second place in terms of the number of newly infected is Georgia, in third so-called Kosovo, followed by the United Kingdom, and Serbia with 317 new positives per 100,000 people.

The Montenegrin government announced new measures for September 10, when the current order expires, Podgorica's Vijesti reports.

The existing measures were adopted on August 21, when 6,515 cases of coronavirus were active in Montenegro, while 7,975 were recorded yesterday.

Epidemiologist Milena Popovic Samardzic assessed yesterday that the epidemiological situation is a cause for concern, not only because Montenegro is in seventh place in the world when it comes to the number of deaths from Covid and at the very top of the list when it comes to the newly infected, "but also because we are not taking in these brutal facts."
