Unpleasant odors of manure have been present throughout Belgrade in the previous days, and the worst-hit parts of the city have been Banovo Brdo, Tasmajdan, Konjarnik, Dorcol, New Belgrade... Citizens wondered where such odors were coming from and then spreading around the capital.

That smell is manure-like, and that's exactly what it is.

"Unpleasant odors, reminiscent of the smell of manure, come from that. It is a fertilizer that individuals spread on arable land. The unpleasant smell spreads due to evaporation at high air temperatures," the Secretariat for Inspection Affairs explained for Telegraf.

They added that the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection of that Secretariat supervises application and implementation of the Law on Environmental Protection and other regulations adopted on the basis of that law, exclusively regarding registered economic entities whose activities endanger the environment, but not when it comes to individuals.

"We note that environmental inspectors do not control unpleasant odors, but emissions of pollutants into the air," the Secretariat's representatives said.
