At this time, there is no need to introduce new Covid measures, but it is necessary to strictly respect those that are in force, epidemiologist Predrag Kon said today.

He told TV Prva that each gathering represents a risk for the unvaccinated people, i.e, that they are 30 times more likely to become infected at such gatherings than those who have received both doses of the vaccine.

In recent days, there has been an increase in the number of new cases in Serbia, but Kon stressed that the situation is not alarming, although there will be a problem if there is no control of who is attending festivals and larger gatherings.

"We still have a calm situation with an indication that growth is starting and there is no doubt any longer that it will happen. The situation is such that we need to come to our senses," Kon told TV Prva.

He said that in Belgrade last week, 1.5 percent of the total number of samples were positive, while previously that number was one percent.

Kon stressed that the epidemic in the country can be "calmed" by increasing the number of immunized people, but also that currently about 17 percent of those vaccinated are under the age of 30, which, he added, is a low number.

An increased number of Indians have been arriving in Serbia as well, primarily thanks to new Covid regulations, which state that travelers from countries that are not on the (EU) green list should stay in a country that is on that list for at least two weeks, in order to be able to travel to certain destinations.

Kon pointed out that the City Institute of Public Health has so far had no reports of Indian citizens being infected with Covid.
