"The very mechanism of how they do it is very interesting. When Gotovina was convicted for the Storm crimes, the next ruling was that he was innocent"

Speaking about the verdicts against former heads of the Serbian State Security Service, Jovica Stanisic and Franko Simatovic, who were on Wednesday sentenced to 12 years in prison in The Hague, Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin pointed out that it is interesting that they first declare Serbs innocent and then the next is a guilty verdict.

"The very mechanism of how they do it is very interesting. When (former Croatian general) Gotovina was convicted for the (Operation) Storm crimes, the next ruling was that he was innocent. When Serbs are declared innocent, the next verdict is that they are guilty," said Vulin.

"It's not about whether it's the Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals or the Hague Tribunal, both were created to put Serbs and the people of Serbia as a whole on trial. It's very interesting that in order to release Markac and Gotovina, the Hague Tribunal changed its rules. They said, 'If there was no immediate execution, then there is no crime', and then a few years later, they changed their rules again, where they said that there is such a possibility in order to convict Stanisic and Simatovic."

"This is an attempt to put the people of Serbia and Serbia on trial. They (the tribunals) have not been created to judge what's true or to reconcile us. With their verdicts, they additionally pitted the peoples in the Balkans against each other. This verdict should, in the end, serve to condemn the people of Serbia," said Vulin.
