Indian coronavirus strain getting closer to Serbia: Double mutant detected in Croatia
The variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that has two changes in the surface protein has been registered in the Split-Dalmatia district
"The Indian strain of coronavirus has been detected in Croatia," Iva Pem Novosel from the Croatian Institute of Public Health has announced.

According to her, the British strain of coronavirus is prevalent in Croatia, but in several cases the Indian strain has also been detected. This strain, known as the double mutant, is quite contagious and has a high potential for rapid transmission.
"It was discovered a few days ago in the Split-Dalmatia district, but these are individual cases and there is no room for panic," Pem Novosel stressed.
The Indian strain of coronavirus produces similar symptoms to other strains of SARS-CoV-2: fever, loss of the sense of smell and taste, cough, the "Covid tongue," whitish changes on the nails, fatigue, headache...
What is known so far about the Indian variant is that it has two significant genetic changes in the surface protein - E484Q and L452R. That is why it was named the "double mutant." However, that does not mean that the Indian variant is twice as contagious or dangerous - scientists have not proven that yet.
