Sekler: I'm not sure we've beaten the virus. I don’t like the triumphant tone
He also stressed that Covid measures must be respected everywhere
The number of vaccinated and revaccinated people is growing, data related to coronavirus is good - the number of deaths, those on ventilators, those infected and hospitalized is falling. However, virologist Milanko Sekler points out that despite the improved situation, we still have about ten deaths a day.
We recently received a good grade from Russia for the Sputnik V vaccine which is produced in the Torlak Institute in Belgrade.
"I'm not sure we've beaten the virus. I don't like the triumphant tone, it is better than it was, but we are far from the end and everything being over. We don't even have 40 percent vaccinated people. Last year at this time we had a similar story and relaxed the measures. It's not enough. We have to exceed 55, 60 percent in order to have effects that will make it harder to bring us back down," the virologist told TV Prva.
He sad that he began to doubt the success of vaccines because measures were relaxed quickly in some countries, and then there was a sudden jump in the number of new cases. He also stressed that measures must be respected everywhere once larger gatherings are allowed.
"Let's not squabble over two men sitting in a garden without masks, while 500 people can sit elsewhere and no one is wearing a mask, and nothing happens," Sekler stressed.
