Serbian president offers condolences upon passing of Prince Philip

On behalf of the citizens of Serbia and on my own behalf, I would like to send you my sincerest condolences upon the passing of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh - the message reads

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has sent a telegram of condolences over the death of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, stating:

"On behalf of the citizens of Serbia and on my own behalf, I would like to send you my sincerest condolences upon the passing of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh."

The president of Serbia stressed that Prince Philip will always be an example of selfless public service, as well as constant efforts to contribute to the welfare of the United Kingdom with his authority and commitment.

"With his personality and sense of responsible performance of demanding public duties, he over the decades gained the undivided affection not only of the British, but also of the whole world. He was deeply committed to the welfare of Britain. Unobtrusively but firmly, he won the hearts of his compatriots, but also of all people regardless of nation, race or religion, who appreciated his seriousness, devotion, a cheerful spirit and sincere patriotism rooted in constant service to the state, filled for many decades with many challenges," Vucic's letter said.

The president recalled that Prince Philip, as a descendant of famous royal families, showed the strength and consistency of an officer even in the most difficult times, making himself the pillar for the family and the whole country that will remember him with deep respect.

"Once again, I express my deep condolences, convinced that the United Kingdom will continue to remember Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, the right way," stated the telegram of condolences sent by President Vucic.

Earlier today, the Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Philip II, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II had passed away.

"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh," a statement said.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle," it is added.
