Works started today on the construction of traffic and free areas and facilities at the pet cemetery complex in Block 51 in New Belgrade.

The value of the contracted works is 130.3 million dinars, the deadline for completing the first phase is six months, and the agreed deadline for building an incinerator with a refrigerator is four months from the commencement of works. The cemetery complex covers an area of 15,376 square meters.

The project includes construction of roads, pedestrian paths, green areas, parking lots, accompanying communal infrastructure and an administrative facility, as well as a center for incineration of animal waste. As part of the external area, about 20 parking spaces will be built, while a green belt 15 meters wide is planned along the perimeter of the complex. Trees are planned to line the parking space at the entrance to the cemetery and along the main access road. The cemetery provides for the possibility of burying pets in several ways, and the space will be blended with the existing greenery.

The complex is divided into three functional units

1) Front zone - an administrative facility where a veterinary office is planned, a farewell hall and a store selling accompanying equipment;

2) Middle zone - intended for individual and group burial of animals;

3) Back zone in which the center for incineration of animal waste will be located.

The burial area consists of a farewell square, plots for rosaries and columbariums, plots for graves in a row and a space for joint burial. All facilities will be connected by internal roads and footpaths. The dimensions of the graves are determined by the size of the animal.

Three types of burial places are planned for burial in the ground: small, medium and large, rosaries and columbariums are planned near the entrance to the cemetery, while joint burials will be in a free space covered with grass for burial without special features, and will be located at the bottom of the complex.
