"Forks broke his spine, awful scene, we tried pulling him out": Colleague describes worker's death
The man was repairing a forklift when the forks crushed him
40-year-old D.A., a worker hired by the Sole Komerc company, was killed today at around 10 o'clock in a coal warehouse as he was trying to repair a forklift.
As his colleague Mladen Tomic, the head of the warehouse, has told Telegraf.rs, it is not known exactly how this great tragedy happened, except that, for an unknown reason, the forks fell onto him.
"He was doing something around a forklift. While another colleague went away to get the keys, he got crushed by the forks that literally broke his spine. I was nearby when it happened, at that moment I was in the bathroom, and he was behind, in the warehouse. At one point a colleague called me to get there quickly. The scene was awful, we tried to pull him out, to lift the forks, but that was impossible to do manually," Tomic recounts this disturbing event.
He adds that by the time he arrived, it was already too late.
"His spine broke instantly... If only I was there at that moment... However, when I saw it, it was already too late. We are not working at the moment, we've closed the gates, there are police and ambulances here. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do for our colleague. I am trembling, I'm taking medication, I don't know how I will fall asleep tonight," Mladen Tomic told us, visibly shaken and upset.
