Woman from Novi Sad brought British strain of coronavirus to Serbia
The woman had a PCR test done in late December
The British strain of coronavirus was discovered in a woman from Novi Sad who arrived from London, and for whom a PCR test was done at the end of December.
"This is a sample from a patient from Novi Sad whose PCR test for Covid-19 was performed at the end of December at the Torlak (institute). According to the criteria of the study in which the sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 virus strains is done at the Institute of Microbiology of the Medical Faculty in Belgrade and the Veterinary Specialist Institute Kraljevo, this sample was selected and proved the presence of the British strain," says Professor Dr. Aleksandra Knezevic from the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, who is one of the main researchers in the study of molecular characterization of the SARS-Cov-2 virus in Serbia.
Speaking for Kurir, she added that more detailed data is a part of epidemiological monitoring that can be obtained from the competent institute of public health.
Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar said on Sunday evening, during the Hit Tvit show on Pink TV, that the woman became infected on a plane.
