The world's longest gondola starts working: From Zlatibor to Tornik, a 1,000 dinars ride
The Gold Gondola is the longest panoramic gondola in the world, and the ride along the 9-kilometer route takes about 25 minutes in one direction
The panoramic gondola on Mt. Zlatibor, one of the largest investments in the municipality of Cajetina, has started working today. The gondola connects the center of Zlatibor and the mountain's highest peak, Tornik, over Ribnica Lake, in the length of 9 kilometers.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic attended the ceremony of the commissioning of this panoramic gondola.
"I am proud of this gondola and I will never say that it is bad and I don't care who had the idea, or who built it. We will invest in Zlatibor. We hope that we will have gondolas in other parts of Serbia, and I believe we will be able to have similar contents in Belgrade as well. I want to say that we will be with you, regardless of who is in power at what time," Vucic stated.
He told those in attendance that he came to Zaltibor to offer his congratulations on the gondola, which is a great success:
"That's how Serbia should be," the president said.
"It is a great honor and pleasure to be here with you today. I am glad that the equipment of the French company is here today. It's a great pleasure for me to be have been one of the important participants in this project. The Gold Gondola is the longest in the world," said Christian Bouvier, from the French company Poma, which worked on this project.
He thanked everyone who helped complete the project.
"The gondola is one of the most valuable investments in tourism in recent years," said the president of the municipality of Cajetina, Milan Stamatovic.
At the beginning of the event, the anthem was played by our well-known trumpeter Dejan Petrovic. After that, a small play was performed in front of those who gathered, which demonstrated the importance of this project, but also the beauty of the Zlatibor region.
Milojko Udovicic Sis from Zlatibor said that he and his brother worked on this construction, in order for everything to be finished as it should.
According to Bojana Bozanic, director of JP Gold Gondola, this mountain is entering a new era of tourism with the gondola.
"In the next 7 to 10 years, we expect that, thanks also to the gondola, we will realize 10 million overnight stays and bring a million tourists a year to Zlatibor. The gondola will also enable new projects along its route, which will complete the tourist offer with various commercial contents," said Bozanic.
She pointed out that the Zlatibor gondola is the longest panoramic gondola in the world and that the ride on the 9-kilometer route lasts about 25 minutes in one direction.
The price of the gondola ride from Zlatibor to Tornik will be 1,000 dinars in both directions for adults and 550 dinars for children.
The construction of the Gold Gondola cost the municipality of Cajetina 13 million euros, while construction works started five years ago.
