Serbia is facing the 3rd peak of the coronavirus epidemic, and President Aleksandar Vucic said that our numbers are still not falling, but that we should manage to keep healthcare and protection under control as much as possible.

"I am grateful to our doctors for everything they are doing for our country. We will open a hospital in Krusevac on December 17 at the latest, which will strengthen our capacities. When I look at the numbers... it's as if everyone in Kraljevo had coronavirus. There are between 220 and 250 infected people every day. Then you ask yourself, 'Who hasn't been infected here yet?'," said Vucic.

He said that the hospital will help a large number of districts in that part of the country: Rasina, Raska, and even Moravica.

As he said, the fight for vaccines remains both bilateral and according to the COVAX plan, so that we may get it as soon as EU members, maybe with a two or three day delay.

"We have 9,000 people in hospitals," Vucic added.

Speaking about the hospital in Batajnica that was recently opened for Covid patients, the president of Serbia pointed out that the hospital was completed under impossible conditions in 4 months and 2 days.

"Those people did what Serbia never did before, complete (a hospital) in 4 months. It was done excellently, according to all standards. People from various fields came there, fantastic doctors... to save people's lives. They work and fight," said Vucic.

The director of the office of the World Health Organization in Serbia Marijan Ivanusa said earlier today that the epidemiological situation in Serbia is difficult and pointed out that our country may now be at the peak of the third wave of the coronavirus epidemic.

Marijan Ivanusa said that the growth of new cases on a daily basis has slowed down, that this could be the peak of the third wave and that this will be seen by the end of the week.

"Regardless of whether we are at the peak of the third wave, the situation is still very serious. We see between 6,000 and 8,000 new cases every day, and those are big numbers. We know that a large number of hospitalizations and a large number of deaths follow behind that," Ivanusa told Tanjug.

Also, the Crisis HQ for the fight against Covid 19 should hold a session in the coming days, with the main topic this time being new measures for our citizens living abroad who might be returning to Serbia for the holidays.
