Epidemiologist and member of the Crisis HQ for the suppression of coronavirus Dr. Branislav Tiodorovic said that the epidemiological situation in Serbia this week will be very difficult, because the crowds that formed on Black Friday and other gatherings will surely produce results in five to seven days, through the number of newly positive and sick people.

"There is practically a rush to find a free bed in hospitals to accommodate the infected people, the biggest pressure comes from Belgrade because it is the city with the most inhabitants, and it's logical that there are the most infected there. When the hospitals are full, the only logical solution is to send them from Belgrade to another city if there are no beds," Tiodorovic told Blic.

"It should be understood that every contact contributes to a tremendous increase in infection. We have a situation where we must be aware that maintaining contacts further in any way, whether it is Black Friday, shopping malls or gatherings, parties, contributes to a horrific increase in the number of patients. The pressure is horrific on the healthcare system, which is really fighting heroically," epidemiologist Tiodorovic explained for Blic.

As he stressed, this week we will have a very difficult situation.

"The crowds that happened on Black Friday and during other gatherings are certain to produce results in the shape of the number of positive and sick people in five to seven days. Only under the condition that the measures are respected and that everyone behaves responsibly, then we will have a flattening of the curve by December 10, so that we can expect a decline and a calming down by the New Year. This means that each of us should act responsibly, from individuals to all institutions. This prognosis is optimistic, but if we act responsibly, we can manage to have a smaller number of patients," Professor Tiodorovic pointed out.

Tiodorovic said that only after December 10, we can expect a slow flattening of the curve, but at a high level, and a drop in the number of cases only at the end of December.

Tiodorovic stressed that this means that each of us should act responsibly, starting with individuals all the way to all institutions.
