St. Sava Temple's saddest bells: They announced death of Patriarch Irinej and touched the faithful

People were paying their respects to the patriarch

The bells on the Temple of Saint Sava rang this morning to mark the passing of Serbian Patriarch Irinej.

The bells that announced his death sounded in a slow rhythm and penetrated deep into the soul of everyone who passed by.

Serbian Orthodox believers and those who admired Serbian patriarch Irinej felt the chills from the sound of the death bells.

People stopped and paid their respects to the patriarch.

The bells rang for more than half an hour, the believers who gathered there told us.

They stopped at 8:40 am.

Patriarch Irinej was the 45th head of the Serbian Orthodox Church. He was elected as patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church on January 22, 2010.

He passed away early this morning, after fighting a coronavirus infection.
