The Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Amfilohije, will be buried on Sunday, November 1, in the Cathedral of Christ's Resurrection in Podgorica.

"The blessed metropolitan will be transferred to Cetinje today during the day, and the Holy Liturgy will be served in the Cetinje Monastery the next day, October 31, on the feast of St. Peter of Cetinje starting at 9 am. On the same day, at 1 pm, a solemn farewell ceremony for the earthly remains of Metropolitan Amfilohije will take place, as they are taken from the Cetinje Monastery to Podgorica, where they will be prayerfully welcomed at 2 pm in the Cathedral of Christ's Resurrection in Podgorica," the Serbian Church in Montenegro announced.

As they further state, the earthly remains will be lying in state at the Temple until Sunday, November 1, when the Holy Hierarch's Funeral Liturgy will be served, presided over by His Holiness Patriarch Irinej with several hierarchs from our, Serbian, and other churches.

"After liturgy, the service and the funeral will be held. The blessed reposed Metropolitan Amfilohije, according to his own wish, will be buried in the crypt of the Cathedral in Podgorica in a grave that was prepared during his life," the announcement stressed.

Until the funeral of Metropolitan Amfilohije, people will be able to bow to him in a prayer procession.

"In the days after the funeral, holy liturgy and commemorations will be served daily in the temples, and the faithful will be able to pay homage to the metropolitan's tomb in the Crypt of the Cathedral of Christ's Resurrection," stated the announcement.

The Church says that they expect a contribution from the state authorities in order to bid farewell to "one of the most eminent archbishops of this ancient Saint Sava's Zeta and Montenegrin episcopate, as well as the entire Christian world."

"Aware of the overall health situation, but also of the great respect enjoyed by Metropolitan Amfilohije, we appeal to all participants in the metropolitan's farewell to adhere to all prescribed health measures, acting according to the wisdom of Marko Miljanov, by defending themselves from others with heroics, and defending others from themselves with honor. May there be eternal memory of our bishop and archpastor," said the Episcopal Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro.
