Novak promises Serbian journalists he will do everything to put Belgrade back on the tennis map

The world's best tennis player points out that he will get involved in returning a professional tournament to our capital

Video: Djokovic: I will personally work to bring an ATP tournam

Novak Djokovic spoke for the Serbian media after a training session he held at the Novak Tennis Center in Dorcol, Belgrade, as part of preparations for the tournament in Vienna, where he will play next week.

As one of the topics, the issue of the future of Serbian tennis and the system that exists for this sport in Serbia was singled out, where Djokovic wants to be especially engaged, so that our country and Belgrade could be put back on the tennis map of the world and get an ATP tournament again.

He stressed that it is a great thing that our other big names, such as Janko Tipsarevic, have dedicated themselves to improving tennis through their projects, and he believes that it is necessary to join forces in order for Serbia to be further elevated and this golden age of Serbian tennis to be used for creating a foundation for future players.

"It's a great thing for us who participate in the tennis system of Serbia, the TSS (Serbian Tennis Association) is the main one for the development of tennis in Serbia, Janko dedicated himself to the academy, to help our young tennis players. I hope that we will be able to organize a return of a professional tournament to Serbia. Although Adria Tour ended as it did, and was followed with a negative story, for me it showed why Serbia and Belgrade deserve to have a professional tournament. I will personally ask that we bring a professional tournament to Belgrade.

Everyone who comes from here and who came from Serbian tennis is in a situation where they have to go around the world in order to play. We all have to consolidate, to unite to find a solution together, for all cities in Serbia to compete to bring in a tournament. If you don't offer tournaments to children, not only national, but also international, it is a great burden on the budget of every family in Serbia. In order for things to be different, we need to have tournaments here," Djokovic concluded.
