The director of the Clinical Center in Kragujevac, Dr. Predrag Sazdanovic, has told RTS that the coronavirus epidemic is slowly activating everywhere in Serbia. He pointed out that he is very pessimistic and that we must be smart today so that we don't have to worry tomorrow.

"I am very pessimistic, measures are not respected, through social networks we see various  types of nonsense. The conclusion is simple - here we have to be smart today so that we don't have to worry tomorrow," said Sazdanovic.

Predrag Sazdanovic explained how the situation could develop "unless we come to our senses."

"Let's imagine a situation where it's November and Serbia breaks all daily records in the number of new cases, and you're supposed to celebrate your family patron saint feast, Arandjelovdan, but there's nobody to invite to it, because everyone you know is either infected or in intensive care," said Sazdanovic.

He pointed out that he is mentioning this apocalyptic scenario, because it can happen in 15-20 days.

"Unless we're smart today, unless we wear masks today, are careful and avoid illegal gatherings, maintain the distance and wash our hands then it will happen to us that we'll have nobody to invite to our celebrations, because there will be mass infection and many sick people," Sazdanovic added.

Asked if numbers in Kragujevac are worrying, Sazdanovic said that they are and that they had over 220 examinations in the respiratory diseases enter yesterday, and those are the numbers from July when the situation was very difficult.

"I'm afraid that we will re-enter a rhythm that will in a few days bring us to a situation identical to that in July. I said at the time that the Spanish and the Italian scenario threatened us, now that is no longer the case, now it is the European scenario, because it's awful everywhere," Sazdanovic added.

"Unless we come to our senses and act responsibly towards ourselves and our families, wear masks and avoid gatherings, it will be even harder for us," concluded the director of the Clinical Center Kragujevac.

"We have been between two fires since March"

Sazdanovic explained that the Clinical Center in Kragujevac is a regional clinical center that covers six regions with over two million people.

"At this moment, we have 40 infected people in the Covid system, of which 11 are patients in intensive care. Of those 40 infected, five are from other cities," said Sazdanovic and added that five patients are on ventilators.

In addition, other patients who are not Covid-positive are being treated, meaning that other clinics of the Clinical Center Kragujevac are full.

"We have been between two fires since March. On the one hand, we treat patients who are in the covid system, and we also treat all other patients  we must treat and those are emergency and oncology patients," said Sazdanovic.
