Dr. Kisic Tepavcevic explains in which situations masks should be worn outdoors

She said that masks will have to be worn for a longer period of time, at least until the spring of next year, and we need to get used to them

At today's press conference of the Crisis HQ, Dr. Darija Kisic Tepavcevic explained in detail where and why it is necessary to wear protective masks in the open as well.

Consiering that masks are one of the strongest "weapons" in the fight against coronavirus, they are, of course, mandatory indoors and there are penalty for those who do not wear them in transport, waiting rooms, stores... However, in anticipation of the season of intensified infections, there is more and more talk about the need to wear masks outdoors.

"We mentioned several times that this general measure of primary prevention is the most effective when it comes to the fight against this virus, along with physical distancing, it is the basis of the fight against this virus. When it comes to wearing masks, it is obligatory in our country in all closed spaces and in open spaces if you are waiting in a line where it is impossible to keep your distance," said Dr. Kisic Tepavcevic.

However, she pointed out that, when it comes to open spaces, experts recommend that masks be worn, and added that many countries have introduced this measure as mandatory.

"It is absolutely an expert position that these masks should be worn outdoors, especially when you are in pedestrian zones where there is a large number of people, but we are all aware that it is simply impossible to control all residents of our country in that sense, technically it is not feasible, this type of control, although many countries have introduced it and it has been shown after 2 to 3 weeks to be effective," said the doctor.

She added that at this moment, about 60 percent of the population regularly wear masks.

"If this number were increased to 90 percent, we would save 300,000 lives by the end of the year. We must not be selfish in the fight against this virus, no matter how healthy we feel," she said.

She said that masks will have to be worn for a longer period of time, at least until the spring of next year, and we need to get used to them.
