Four years after the death of 8-year-old boy Radenko Nikodinovic from Kozjak near Loznica, who died at the Institute for Mother and Child in Belgrade as a result of gas gangrene, Loznica orthopedist Dr. Dobrivoje Bojanic's work license has been reinstated, the daily Novosti writes.

This news has caused great upset in the Nikodinovic family.

"I am not at all surprised that his license has been returned to him, because immediately after the death of my child, they did everything just to get the doctor back to work. Here, on October 12, exactly four years have passed since we buried Radenko, and the process before the Basic Court in Sabac is not over. I can't shake off the impression that it is being deliberately prolonged, especially because new expert examination has been ordered," Radenko's father Milan Nikodinovic told Novosti.

On October 2, 2016, the boy fell off a slide and broke his arm. His parents took him to the "Dr Milenko Marin" hospital, where he was admitted by Dr. Bojanic. The child developed a fever that evening and his condition became more complicated each day. When he was finally transferred to Belgrade, it was too late.

He died of gas gangrene on October 8, just six days later.

"I blame myself. My only guilt is that I failed to save my child, and that is a burden that I will carry for the rest of my life. Doctors who, on the first day, in direct conversation, clearly pointed out that a series of omissions had been made in the treatment, made completely opposite claims in the courtroom.

And they treat me as if I haven't lost my son, but something completely unimportant," said Nikodinovic.

Apart from Dr. Bojanic, two other doctors from the Institute for Mother and Child in Belgrade have been charged for negligent treatment of the boy.

They are all accused of committing a serious act against human health, and according to the indictment, from October 2 to 8, 2016, in Loznica and in Belgrade, out of negligence, they applied an inappropriate method of treatment, which caused the deterioration of the boy's health.

"I'm ready to go anywhere, but I really don't know what I could do. I'm thinking whether my possible non-appearance in court would send a clear message... I don't know what to think anymore.

Now, the situation with coronavirus has caused delays, or at least they have one more reason for a new delay," says the inconsolable father, Milan Nikodinovic.
