Such statements, which imply unification of Albania and Kosovo and Metohija and the creation of a Greater Albania, are a justifiable cause for concern, both for Serbia and other countries in the region who are committed to preserving stability, the statement said

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today summoned the ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the Republic of Serbia, Ilir Bocko, to hand him a note expressing the strongest protest over the statements given during the joint session of the governments of the Republic of Albania and of so-called Kosovo, held on October 2 in Tirana, and above all the one concerning the abolition of the border between Albania and Kosovo and Metohija.

"Such statements that imply unification of Albania and the Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija and the creation of a Greater Albania are a justifiable cause for concern, both for the Republic of Serbia and other countries in the region committed to preserving stability and intensifying cooperation in the region," said the note.

The note also pointed out to the daily efforts made by top officials of the Republic of Serbia in order to develop bilateral political and all other relations with neighboring countries and bring closer the positions on issues they disagree on, and in that sense expressed expectation that top officials of the Republic of Albania will in the future refrain from making statements that disrupt bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Albania and which may destabilize the region.

"Regarding allegations in some media about a protest note being given by the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to diplomatic representatives of the Republic of Serbia in Albania, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia announces that the temporary charge d'affaires of the Serbian embassy in Tirana was summoned to the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 6, 2020 to be handed a protest notes, but he refused to receive it due to the unacceptable views expressed in it," said the statement.
