Tiodorovic: Situation is good now, but we expect an increase in coronavirus cases in November
Professor Branislav Tiodorovic also explained on what it will depend whether the surge in the number of infected people will be high
We currently have a good epidemiological situation and we expect it to be the same in October. However, in November, when the colder days arrive, a jump in the number of people infected with coronavirus is inevitable. How big it will depends on our caution and that is why we have decided not to allow large gatherings and to ease the measures only gradually, epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic, a member of the Crisis HQ for the fight against coronavirus, has told Blic.
Although we are doing great at the moment, certainly with cold days and the circulation of people indoors a higher probability of spreading the infection will be created. Indian summer awaits us in October, so experts hope that people will also spend more time outside. There could be a slight increase in the number of infected people in November and December.
"The risk will increase with the cold weather, in November and December, when an increase in the number of patients can be expected. If the population is disciplined as it has been so far, then that number will not be drastically high. And the credit for such a stable situation lies with the huge portion of the population who applied the measures in a disciplined manner. If everything is respected, then we can have a slight increase, because it is inevitable indoors. We certainly have an increased risk with the beginning of the university school year, but we hope that the academic community will organize it well," says Professor Tiodorovic.
Professor Tiodorovic warns that one should be careful because in our region coronavirus is not resting, and since we are an open country for the sake of the economy, goods and transport, there may be an overflow.
"We should be aware that we have an extraordinary result at the moment, we have barely seven cases per 100,000 inhabitants, only Cyprus is better than us. All the others have a far worse result, starting with Montenegro, which has 522 per 100,000, and ranks first on the list of Disease Control Centers out of all the countries in the region and second in general, after Israel," Tiodorovic reiterated.
