Serbia and the Serb Republic (RS) are today celebrating a joint holiday for the first time - Day of Serb Unity, Freedom and the National Flag.

In all municipalities in Serbia and the RS (the Serb entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina) squares and central streets will be decorated with National and State flags of the Republic of Serbia, reports Informer.

This holiday will be jointly celebrated in Serbia and the RS and in all areas where Serbs live around the world, symbolizing unity of the Serb people.

September 15 was chosen because on that day in 1918, the breakthrough of the Macedonian (Salonica) front occurred.

On the occasion of the great holiday - Serb Unit Day - Belgrade's most important streets are today decorated with 4,000 Serbian flags, while the Ada Bridge, Branko's Bridge, the Palace Albania, the National Assembly House and the Slavija Fountain will be illuminated in the colors of the Serbian flag, the deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, said last night.
