Dr. Kon: Quarantine for those returning from vacation still an option; it's an epidemiological risk
Kon warns about the return of people from abroad, wants everyone who has symptoms to prevent further spread
In Serbia, we currently have a situation with low virus activity, so the risk is lower than in neighboring countries, but we must not ignore its presence, otherwise everything will change, assessed Dr. Predrag Kon.
He told Pink TV's morning program that the return of people from abroad is certainly an epidemiological risk.
"We are warning all those people that if they have any problems, they should report immediately and prevent the spread," said Dr. Kon and added that a decision has not yet been made whether they will be mandated to self-isolate.
As he says, there could easily be an overflow, so we must proceed carefully.
Dr. Kon says he thinks the population has been warned enough and adds that he expects people to be taking care.
He also said that the fact is that those who have serious problems and difficulties appear much more often, unlike those who are not experiencing difficulties.
"This is a serious disease but in most cases it passes without difficulties. The filling of hospitals and the huge number of patients on ventilators shows that we have before us a serious disease where it is necessary to continue, regardless of the stabilization, to be careful," said Dr. Kon.
When it comes to a vaccine, he says that there is a very clear legal regulation of that matter in Serbia.
"This time, a vaccine will not come and beg to be registered, we will have get more engaged on that," said Dr. Kon.
Virus cannot be transmitted in schools just like that
He stressed that it's important to speak about the importance of timely preparations for seasonal flu.
"It's already time for vaccination against seasonal flu, because when it comes, that will be a separate topic," said Dr. Kon.
When it comes to schools, Dr. Kon says they are sufficiently secured for to make sure that the virus cannot be transmitted "just like that."
"Collectives are certainly a risk, but it would be the same with (public) transport if all measures were not implemented there as well," said Dr. Kon.
He stressed that it has been noticed that masks are not used a lot, and added that in that way, we increase the risk of transmitting the virus.
"We have to find a way to explain to high school students why they must wear masks," said Dr. Kon.
