Dr. Kon: Students can take off masks only in one case; best situation in Belgrade since July 1
"It cannot be said that schools are completely safe, but that it is important to respect all the protective measures," says epidemiologist Predrag Kon
Epidemiologist and member of the Crisis HQ Predrag Kon says it cannot be said that schools are completely safe, but that it is important to respect all the protective measures.
Kon told TV Prva that it cannot be said that the virus is not there, and that it will not be in schools, so it's impossible to say that children are absolutely safe.
As he advised parents, the children's temperature should be measured and they should be checked for any health problems each day before departing for school. It is also important that a child has a mask with them and learns how to use it properly.
Dr. Kon said that the mask can be put away while sitting in the place where the distance has been determined, to avoid the mask getting moist. It is also important to change the mask as needed. He stressed the importance of wearing a mask because it prevents the possibility of infection and enables normal class attendance.
As he said, in case of infection, the parent reports it to the school, and the school then has the obligation to inform the Institute of Public Health that a child is ill.
"After that, an epidemiological examination follows, where it is checked whether the protective measures have been respected," Dr. Kon explained.
As he said, some parents think that the mask negatively affects their child's health, which is absolute nonsense.
Dr. Kon said it has been confirmed that all hygienic work in schools will be carried out in a timely manner.
Allergies are different from viruses
He stressed that a teacher who has any respiratory problems or fever must not come to work and teach.
Dr. Kon explained that allergies are quite different from infections.
"There is no fever, those who have it already know how to recognize it," stated Kon.
Best situation in Belgrade since July 1
Dr. Kon said that the epidemiological situation in Belgrade is the best it's been since July 1. He added that four new cases of coronavirus were registered in the territory of the capital yesterday.
"We are reaching the level that was there when we made the mistake, that must not happen now," Dr. Kon pointed out.
He said that he did not want to talk about fines, but to warn people that singing has been proven to be an intensive way of transmitting the virus.
"One person in a bar who knows they are infected can infect 15 more people," Dr. Kon warned, and added:
"We've managed to achieve some success with masks and certain measures."
